spontaneous

Friday afternoon Jake and I spontaneously decided to go spend the night in Portland just to get away from life for a day and get some time together.  Jake had just finished his test week and so it seemed like a great time considering the long week he had just had and the busy month we have ahead of us.  We really enjoyed our time there and were really glad we spent the time to go.

On our drive there, we visited a Stonehenge memorial in Maryhill, WA.  Pretty neat to see, but I'm pretty positive nothing like the real Stonehenge.

Saturday morning we decided to visit the famous VooDoo Donut Shop in Portland and it definitely was quite the experience.  Between the "gothic" employees and the bright pink exterior it was really a lot of fun.  Most importantly their donuts were delicious.

Oreo Peanut Butter Donut :), Voodoo Donut, and a Maple Bavarian Cream Donut

Josh had a little sneezing accident while eating his breakfast

Of course we also had to make a quick stop into REI.  Josh quickly entertained himself...

Our main point in this trip was to get outside and enjoy some hikes.  Portland area has an abundant amount of hiking but after talking with some people who have been to the area was made two stops.  The first was at Multnomah Falls which wasn't much of a hike, but it was really beautiful.

Our next stop turned out to be a really incredible and beautiful hike.  We visited Eagle Creek.  Our initial plan was to just go up to Punch Bowl Falls (2.2 miles one-way), but we got there in such good timing we continued up to High Bridge (3.3 miles one-way).  Luckily my inhaler worked and we were really able to enjoy ourselves.  Josh was such a champ.  He took a short nap in his carrier on the hike and was happy the rest of the 2 1/2 - 3 hours he was outside.  Such a good baby and we are incredibly lucky to have such a great son who enjoys being outside!

Well I hope that you enjoy the pictures.  I want to apologize for the plethora of them, but we couldn't get enough of how great it was out there!
