twelve weeks

So, I've officially reached twelve weeks today and had an appointment with my doctor today.  In her words, "I'm the easiest patient" of the day.  No questions, no issues.  I truly am blessed to have such an easy time being pregnant.

At the appointment, Dr. Dufault looked for the heartbeat.  It took her a minute, but I think it's just because the babe still so little and is pretty low.  I was worried for a second, but then the strong heartbeat of 160 came up and it was so great to hear. The doctor also let us know that our next ultrasound to find out what we are having will be at 20 weeks, which puts us at 8 weeks from now so about mid-October.  We are super excited to find that one out!

I feel like things have been moving at a snail's pace.  It hasn't helped that the pregnancy is a week and a couple days behind what I originally thought.  For some reason, I haven't recovered.  Ever since I got my due date, it's been dragging.  Plus, last time I was pregnant I went to work from 8-5 everyday and taught piano twice a week so I was a busy girl.  This time around I'm home all day with no job and a rambunctious toddler.  I will definitely need to start finding things to do.  I've been thinking story time, possibly swimming while it's still warm and play dates.  Hopefully that will help pass the time more quickly.

Overall, I've been feeling well.  Still a little tired every now and then, but really feeling great.  Clothes have started to run a little tighter, but I've been expecting that.  I do feel a little bit bigger than I was with Joshua, but I've heard that's expected.  Plus, I know that I'm not one to hide it well.  My babies grow straight out, but that's definitely okay.  As long as they are healthy, I'm okay with it.



 

joshua dan - 15 months

Wow, this boy is getting big.  He's such a goof and continues to learn so much everyday.  I thought it would be good to give a little update on thing that he is now doing, more for my sake so that I can remember. 

He can now understand/sign:  more, eat, bird, milk, and ball.  Most of these he has learned in just the past few days.  It's been a lot of fun teaching him and watching him understand.  I love being able to speak to him more and now that I see that coming along for him, I'm not as worried with this other baby on the way.  I was worried that I wouldn't be able to communicate with Josh as well as I would like when #2 comes our way, but it's looking like things will be just fine.

He is doing really well with his walking.  It's rare that I see him crawl around the house anymore.  He's into everything and I really think he enjoys exploring.

His new favorite thing is reading books.  He will pull books all day and have me read them to him.  I think a lot of his communication is coming from me reading books to me.  While reading he likes to sign "bird" when he sees them, moo when the cow comes (after I moo first), and growl when we see the lion (after I growl first).  He seriously could read books all day and I'm not lying.

He's fascinated with babies.  Our neighbor's baby, Lyla is continuously interesting to him.  He likes pat her and today he gave her big pats on the back while I was burping her.  He's going to be a great big brother!!!

He loves wearing hats and wrestling with mom and dad.  He's a goof and loves attention.  He's a very social baby who goes to just about anyone without a fuss.

I've been very proud of what a good kid he has been.  I've truly been blessed by such a happy and healthy child. :)

He recently started grabbing the wheel to "drive" while we play Mario Kart.  Cutest thing ever!



We finally caught the "backwards" crawl on tape.  Took us awhile, but I love that he got so good at it.  I miss seeing him do this.

Our Getaway

Jake and I were lucky enough this summer to be able to have a getaway without Josh for couple days.  We call it our baby-moon, and hopefully it will be a tradition.  We were very grateful that Jake's mom, Sandy, could come and watch Joshua.

For our outing, we traveled up to Vancouver Island, BC and it was beautiful. To sum it up:

Our first day we left from Anacortes, WA on the ferry to Sidney, BC.  That ferry is about 2 1/2 hours long.  When we got to Vancouver Island we decided we would spend the day seeing the cities and stopped in Victoria first.  Here we saw the Parliament Government building and went on a tour there, grabbed lunch in china town, saw some ancient totem poles and walked around Victoria.  It's a beautiful town to visit, bigger than we had anticipated.   That afternoon we needed to head up towards our campsite and on our way decided to get a famous "Nanaimo Bar".  They are pretty rich and incredible!  I'll have to try to make them sometime.  We got to our campsite at Rathtrevor Provincial Park.  It's a very beautiful campsite right on the beach and was very quiet and family friendly.  Definitely a place we'd consider visiting again.

The next morning, it was time to head up to Quadra Island for our sea kayaking tour.  We had an excellent time on the water and what's great about it, it was just the two of us with our tour guide.  We could go as fast as we wanted and it was nice and quiet.  It was also really quiet outside because of the weird tides.  I guess that makes the wildlife kind of disappear so it was pretty silent.  So we had a relaxing time.  Kayaked about 8 miles and saw some sea stars and seals.

Our next day we headed back down the island toward Nanaimo.  In Nanaimo we visited Wild Play Element Park and completed the Monkido course.  It's kind of like a ropes course with ziplines, rope swings, climbing, etc.  up high in the trees.  We had a blast.  Definitely one of the funnest things on the trip and we would recommend it to anyone.

 After Wildplay it was time to head home.  It was nice to get away, but Jake and I were very excited to see our baby boy the next morning.  This was the first time I had ever left him overnight.  He did great for Sandy and was very spoiled!

Bay Bean Um Bert Who

It took us a little while to figure out a way of telling our parents and family that we were pregnant.  We ended up coming up with this Mad Gab "Bay Bean Um Bert Who" and we actually thought it turned out to be really fun! Glad that we got Jake's parents on tape!
